Since 1984, if you visit Fenway Park, you might notice a single red seat among the otherwise green seats in the far away rightfield bleachers. On June 9, 1946, Joseph Voucher sat in those bleachers in the blazing sun when Ted Williams slugged the longest homerun ever hit at the park in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers. Voucher was hit on the head and ended up with a broken straw hat and no ball. But many years later, Voucher’s then-10-year-old grandson had an idea for reliving that memory with him and made it a reality with the help of the Red Sox.
